Volley Of Belief: Dorgu Makes His Mark As Man United Grind Past Newcastle To Climb To Fifth Patrick Dorgu’s first Manchester United goal sealed a 1-0 win over Newcastle, lifting Ruben Amorim’s side to fifth in the Premier League and level on points with Chelsea. Patrick Dorgu picked the perfect moment to announce himself at Old Trafford. The Danish youngster’s first Manchester United goal sealed a gritty 1-0 win over Newcastle, lifting Ruben Amorim’s injury-hit side up to fifth in the Premier League and level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea. Recommended Stories Deprived of captain Bruno Fernandes, and with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo away at AFCON, Amorim rolled the tactical dice - and it paid off. Abandoning his preferred back three, the United boss switched to a back four and pushed Dorgu into a more advanced role on the right. The 21-year-old repaid the faith in style. After Diogo Dalot’s cross was half-cleared, Dorgu met the dropping ball sweetly on the volley, firing past Aaron Ramsdale on 24 minutes to hand United a priceless lead. That strike proved decisive, even though Newcastle dominated the second half. United were forced into a rare rearguard display, clinging on for only their second clean sheet of the season - but this time, the result matched the performance. Eddie Howe shuffled his shape early after United’s bright start, yet familiar problems resurfaced for the Magpies. Their miserable away form continued, with just two wins in 12 road games in all competitions this season. United could have made life easier. Ramsdale denied Dorgu a second before the break, while Benjamin Sesko rattled the bar and Dalot blazed over late on. Newcastle came close too - Lewis Hall struck the crossbar - but clear chances were squandered by Anthony Gordon and Lewis Miley. Amorim was dealt another blow when Mason Mount failed to reappear after half-time, prompting the introduction of Jack Fletcher, son of former United midfielder Darren Fletcher, for his Old Trafford debut. Despite being pinned back for long spells, United held firm to secure a first home win in two months. For Newcastle, it was another frustrating night - and another reminder that Champions League hopes are slipping away. Only Sunderland, alongside the Magpies, have failed to score against United this season. (with agency inputs) Click here to add News18 as your preferred news source on Google.
