This webinar will present the key findings of the recent (i)SDL Insight project, which explored the current state, barriers, and future potential of Secure Digital Lending (iSDL) in libraries across Italy, Poland, and Spain. The session will provide an overview of comparative data on legal, technological, financial, and human resource challenges, as well as user demand and library strategies, offering participants practical insights into the pathways for implementing (i)SDL. The Webinar Join us for this in-depth webinar presenting the outcomes of the (i)SDL Insight: Digital Lending Pathways in Italy, Poland, and Spain project, supported by Knowledge Rights 21. The session will open with Stephen Wyber (KR21 and IFLA) introducing the initiative’s objectives within the broader context of knowledge rights and equitable access to information. Dr. Konrad Gliściński (Centrum Cyfrowe and Future Law Lab, Jagiellonian University) will provide a conceptual introduction to Independent Secure Digital Lending (iSDL), explaining what it is, how it differs from other e-lending models, and its relevance for libraries today. The webinar will then focus on the survey results from each country. Deborah De Angelis (DDA Law Firm, CLAKP and KR21 Italian National Coordinator) and Silvana Mangiaracina (Dario Nobili Library - Research Area of the CNR, and CLAKP) will present the Italian findings, highlighting libraries’ current practices, legal and technological barriers, financial constraints, and perceived user demand for (i)SDL. The Spanish perspective will follow, with Ana Ordàs García (FESABID and KR21 Spanish National Coordinator) and Daniel Cócera (FESABID) sharing insights on Spain’s relatively advanced digital lending landscape, implementation challenges, and the opportunities identified for further development. The Polish segment, led by , will examine the emerging state of iSDL in Poland, outlining structural obstacles, limited legal clarity, and the growing recognition of digital lending’s strategic importance.
