By Aashna NadkarniMashable India

Thalapathy Vijay’s last acting project film Jana Nayagan , before he moves into politics, is one of the most-anticipated films of the year. Fans have been eagerly waiting for the makers of the film to release it on the big screens. Originally scheduled for a release on January 9, 2025, it was postponed after the movie wasn’t given a censor clearance by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). After much back and forth, the matter has now reached the Madras High Court, after which it was taken up to the Supreme Court. According to media publications, in their plea, the producers asked for a clearance on Jana Nayagan. As per recent reports, the Supreme Court declined interim relief to the Jana Nayagan makers. They have set the hearing for January 20, 2026, in HC. For those who don’t know, it was on January 9 that the Madras High Court stayed a single judge’s order directing the CBFC grant an immediate censor certificate to Jana Nayagan . KVN Productions LLP had filed an appeal against the order passed by a division bench of the High Court last Friday. It is to be noted that the 51-year-old actor had recently launched his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The excitement surrounding the movie’s much-awaited release had reached its peak, with fans buzzing and making plans, when the deferral was announced. Advanced bookings for the film had already opened across Tamil Nadu. Multiple reports had surfaced on the internet about first-day, first-show tickets being sold in black, for Rs 5,000, which is way higher than the government-mandated cap of Rs 190. On the work front, Thalapathy Vijay was last seen in GOAT: The Greatest of All Time (2024). Directed by Venkat Prabhu, the movie starred Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Meenakshi Chaudhary, and many others.
