The 2024 National Book Awards finalists are announced in five categories (full list)

25 finalists of the National Book Awards 2024, have been revealed by the National Book Foundation and New York Times. The National Book Foundation has named the finalists for the 2024 National Book Awards , from a total of 1,917 books submitted for this year’s competition. These awards recognize outstanding books in five categories: Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Translated Literature, and Young People’s Literature. A panel of judges chose the five finalists in each category from the 2024 National Book Awards Longlist announced in September in cooperation with The New Yorker. One writer and one translator have previously been honored by the National Book Foundation: Leri Price and Samar Yazbek. All of this year’s finalists in the Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Young People’s Literature categories are being honored for the first time. It’s also worth noting that five of the 25 finalists are debut authors. The 2024 Finalists will read from their work at the National Book Awards Finalist Reading on the evening of Tuesday, November 19 at NYU Skirball, an annual in-person, ticketed event that is open to the public and livestreamed for readers everywhere. The Winners of the 2024 National Book Award will be announced live on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at the 75th National Book Awards Ceremony. At the gala, two lifetime achievement awards will also be presented: - Barbara Kingsolver, Pulitzer Prize winning author, will receive NBF’s Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters - W.
