Priya at the Ripon Buildings on Wednesday. | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement Cheques worth ₹35.70 lakh were distributed to 6,236 students from Chennai schools, who participated in sports competitions at the national, State, district and zonal levels, by Mayor R. Priya on Wednesday at the Ripon Buildings. The incentives were announced in the Mayor’s 2025-26 budget statement. According to a press release, 25 students who participated at national level sporting events received ₹2,500 each, 24 students who competed at the State level were given ₹1,500 each, 755 students at the district level received ₹ 1,000 each, while 5,432 students who participated at the zonal level were given ₹ 500 each. . Deputy Mayor M. Magesh Kumaar, Joint Commissioner (Education) K. Karpagam, standing committee chairperson (Education) T. Viswanathan, officials, teachers and students were present at the event.
