TimothĂ©e Chalamet Says a âMarty Supremeâ Background Actor Threatened Him on Set: âYou Donât Want to Fâ With Me. You Donât Want to See Me Angryâ
TimothĂ©e Chalamet revealed during a recent Q&A with Robert Downey Jr. at New Yorkâs DGA Theater that he was threatened by a background actor while filming a scene for Josh Safdieâs â Marty Supreme .â âI wonât say who, but in that motel sequence, there are a lot of non-actors...that I find it really thrilling to work with, but sometimes it would take multiple takes to really get something out of them,â Chalamet said (per People ). âAnd Iâm really getting in the guyâs face and Iâm really trying to get him angry with me. I was saying to Josh, âHeâs not getting angry with me, heâs not getting angry with me.'â Although the Oscar-nominated actor assumed he wasnât getting a rise out of the unnamed extra, he was mistaken. Popular on Variety âI did another take, and then the guy said, âI was just in jail for 30 years. You really donât want to fuck with me. You donât want to see me angry,'â Chalamet said with a nervous laugh. âI said to Josh, âHoly shit, who do you have me opposite, man?ââ Chalamet stars in Safdieâs sports dramedy as Marty Mauser, who chases his dream of becoming a table-tennis champion. âMarty Supremeâ is a fictionalized account of the real-life Marty Reisman, who won five world championship medals in table tennis. Chalamet is an Oscar frontrunner for his performance in âMarty Supreme,â which has already scored him honors from the Criticsâ Choice Awards and Golden Globes. He has also received an Actor Award nomination from SAG. In his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes , Chalamet said, âMy dad instilled in me a spirit of gratitude growing up. âAlways be grateful for what you have.â Itâs allowed me to leave the ceremony in the past empty handed with my head held high, grateful just to be here. But Iâd be lying if I said those moments didnât make this moment that much sweeter.â
