Bombshell reason Donald Trump called off 'imminent' Iran strike revealed The White House says 'all options are still on the table'. Donald Trump was urged to postpone a US attack on Iran over the Islamic Republic's violent crackdown on protesters by Benjamin Netanyahu , reports suggest. The US President on Thursday left it unclear what actions he would take against Iran after previous threats to act unless the Iranian regime stopped killing those protesting. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said before a meeting of the UN Security Council that "all options remain on the table for the president". Tehran appeared to make conciliatory statements in the lead up to the meeting in a bid to defuse the situation. It had appeared an attack was imminent amid reports the US was evacuating military bases in the Middle East in case of Iranian retaliation in the event of US action. Meanwhile, a Saudi official said a push to get Washington not to attack was led by Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia amid concern of Iranian reprisals. The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency reported on Thursday that Iran’s crackdown on demonstrations has killed at least 2,615. Such a death toll exceeds any other round of protest or unrest in Iran for decades and recalls the chaos surrounding the country’s Islamic Revolution in 1979. In the emergency Security Council meeting, the UN warned possible military strikes on Iran would add volatility to an already combustible situation. Assistant Secretary-General Martha Pobee said UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged maximum restraint at a sensitive moment. She said Mr Guterres called on all sides to refrain from any actions which could lead to further loss of life or ignite a wider regional escalation. Ms Leavitt, meanwhile, said Mr Trump and his team had told Iranian officials there would be "grave consequences" if the killing continued. She told reporters: "The president understands today that 800 executions that were scheduled and supposed to take place yesterday, were halted." The press secretary said Mr Trump continued to closely watch the situation. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Mr Guterres in a call before the UN meeting that the organisation needed to do more to condemn foreign influence in the Islamic Republic. The semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that Mr Araghchi had implored Mr Guterres to live up to the "serious expectation" Iran’s government and its people have of the UN to condemn "illegal US interventions against Iran".
