Russia issues WW3 ‘planetary disaster’ warning – ‘Europe will bow at our feet’
A Russian nationalist politician has issued a chilling warning to Europe as it scrambles to mount a response to the US president's latest threats. Aleksey Zhuravlev, 63, said leaders with ambitions like the Donald Trump have "more often than not led the planet to disaster", adding that if Europe and the US were to clash, "Europe would come running to us [ Russia ], bowing at our feet, begging for protection". It comes after Trump reiterated on Wednesday that the US "needs Greenland for the purpose of national security". EU chief Ursula von der Leyen reaffirmed that same day that "Greenland belongs to its people" and that she had been in contact with Denmark over the issue. Posting to Telegram, Zhuravlev wrote: "I think anyone who observes Trump's activities should understand that everything he says is far from empty threats. He's made it perfectly clear that he intends to deal with Venezuela, and he's doing so before the astonished eyes of the entire world . "He's announced territorial claims to Greenland, and the Pentagon is already beginning to prepare a special operation to invade the island. And this isn't even about the Monroe Doctrine or the US's desire to dominate the Western Hemisphere, as it once was. "Trump is absolutely certain that he's the king of the universe, and that anything goes. This is the main problem facing all of humanity right now; leaders with such egos and exorbitant ambitions have more often than not led the planet to disaster. "I wouldn't be at all surprised if, were a confrontation with the United States to occur, Europe would come running to us, bowing at our feet, begging for protection." Zhuravlev is the deputy chairman of the Russian's parliament's defence committee. He proposed that the Kremlin supply nuclear-capable Russian missiles with Venezuela and Cuba in late October after Trump had authorised the CIA to conduct operations inside Venezuela and threatened land strikes on "narco-terrorists". Last week, Zhuravlev said Russia needs to " attack with torpedoes and sink a couple of American Coast Guard boats" in response to the US capture of the Russian-flagged tanker Marinera between Iceland and Scotland in the Atlantic. He branded the operation "an encroachment on Russian territory" given that the tanker was sailing under a Russian flag at the time and heading towards the country. "There is no doubt that the response must be firm and swift - our military doctrine in such a case even provides for the use of nuclear weapons," he added.
