Share Your Feedback Choose News18 on Google A 20-year-old engineering student reportedly died by suicide in her hostel room in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district late Saturday night. The student, identified as Princy Kumari, was pursuing a B.Tech in Computer Science and was in her second year, residing in university hostel near Punjipathra. Hailing from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, Princy allegedly ended her life by hanging herself on Saturday night, police said. The incident came to light after hostel authorities were alerted. Soon after, police arrived at the scene and carried out an investigation. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination before being handed over to her family. Recommended Stories It is learnt that her family became concerned after repeated calls to her went unanswered around 8.30 pm on Saturday, prompting them to contact the hostel warden. When the hotel official went to see the victim, she found the room locked from inside. After getting no response despite repeated knocks, the warden looked through a window and saw her hanging, according to a report in India Today. Police Suspect Academic Stress Behind Suicide Preliminary information indicates that Princy was under academic stress, having to appear for second-year exams along with backlog papers from her first year. During probe, police also recovered a suicide note from her room in which she apologised to her parents, expressing guilt over using their savings for her education. The suicide note also mentioned academic pressure. Police said the note revealed that Princy felt she couldn’t meet her parents’ expectations and was distressed about her academic performance and the financial burden on her family. “Sorry Mummy Papa, I couldn’t meet your expectations," the suicide note read, the report claimed. According to her family members, the deceased student had backlogs in five first-semester subjects and was preparing for re-examinations. They also mentioned that she had recently requested around Rs 1 lakh in instalments for semester fees. Police stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed post the post-mortem report.
