Lifeguard sucked into water park drain after diving to retrieve tourist's ring Guilherme da Guerra Domingos, 24, was sector leader at Wet’n Wild water park in Itupeva, Brazil - his colleagues retrieved him from the water but he sadly died later in hospital A lifeguard died after an incident at a water park while he was carrying out his duties, police have confirmed. Guilherme da Guerra Domingos, 24, entered a pool at Wet’n Wild water park in Itupeva, Brazil on Tuesday to retrieve a tourist’s ring and became trapped underwater, according to a police report. The document states that he was sucked into the pool’s drainage system and drowned . The incident took place at an attraction called Water Bomb, with his colleagues becoming concerned when Guilherme did not return to the surface. Other lifeguards entered the pool, pulled him out and began first aid while emergency medical teams from the local health department were called to the scene. Wet’n Wild told police that Guilherme had worked at the park for just over two years and had been promoted to sector leader in October last year. The company also said the Water Bomb attraction does not have a bottom drain. In addition, the hydraulic system uses side drains positioned in the opposite direction from the water slide exit and from where visitors leave the pool. City hall said the park is operating in line with all required documentation. “We would also like to clarify that the occupancy permit for each attraction has been submitted and is valid, as is the Fire Department Inspection Certificate (AVCB), which is also within its validity period,” the statement said. In a post on social media on Wednesday, Wet’n Wild confirmed the park remains closed. The company said it is supporting Guilherme’s family and cooperating with authorities as investigations continue. Guilherme’s body was taken to the Forensic Medical Institute in Jundiaí. He was later released and buried in Bragança Paulista.
