SHRC seeks action against road safety violations in city

State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Chairperson Alexander Thomas has directed the Ernakulam District Collector to convene an emergency meeting aimed at checking violation of rules by speeding vehicles, including high-end bikes in Kochi . The Commission asked the Collector to convene a joint meeting of officials, including the Road Safety Commissioner, District Police Chief (Kochi City), Assistant Commissioner (Traffic), Regional Transport Officer, Joint Regional Transport Officer, and the Kochi Corporation Secretary. They need to come up with proposals to check such violations, according to a release. The SHRC asked the authorities to take stock of the number of AI-driven cameras in the city. They need to examine whether additional cameras are required. The officials concerned must submit a report within three weeks based on the outcome of the meeting, it said.
