Jo Passed ease into motion on reflective new single ‘Dizzy Izzy’ Jo Passed image via Justine Nelson Jo Passed returns with new single ‘Dizzy Izzy,’ premiered via KEXP’s The Early Show as the final preview from upcoming album Away , out January 23, 2026, on Youth Riot Records. The Toronto-based project of singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Jo Hirabayashi, Jo Passed delivers a lilting, groove-led track that balances warmth with introspection. ‘Dizzy Izzy’ unfolds with a relaxed rhythmic pulse and layered instrumentation, reflecting a period of transition during the writing of Away . The song captures a sense of movement and adjustment, shaped by evolving band dynamics and a shift in how Hirabayashi approached live performance and arrangement. Additional guitars and keys broaden the song’s texture, giving it a fuller sound that mirrors its themes of change and forward momentum. Hirabayashi explains the song: “During the writing of Away , ‘Dizzy Izzy’ was part of the latter’s songs in the process. During the time I did sporadic shows around Vancouver mostly in a trio format with Mac Lawrie on drums and Téa Mei on bass. I started writing songs more thinking that I might work to pursue that format further for future live Jo Passed sets. The song ended up being a processing song about losing a fourth member from the past lineup and coming to terms with going in a new direction. Eventually, though, I ended up adding more guitars and keys that now require a fourth member.” ‘Dizzy Izzy’ is out now and available to stream on all platforms.
