Guy Fieri Shares Health Update After Tearing His Quad Muscle
Guy Fieri has all the ingredients for an ideal recovery. Over a month after the Food Network star tore his quad ricep muscle falling down the stairs -which required emergency surgery to repair-he offered a promising update on his health. “I’m doing better,” Guy, 57, told People in an interview published Jan. 14. “It was definitely a trying holiday, but you know what, you get some real appreciation for having the ability to just get up and walk around and do everything you used to. I’m a big CrossFit and hiking guy, so eight weeks of no hiking has driven me kind of crazy. But I’m looking forward to it, trying to take it easy.” Indeed, the host has been on the mend since the November accident. At the time, he was filming his series Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives Flavor Town Food Fight when “one foot went forward and the other foot got caught on the threshold,” causing the brutal tear in his leg. He underwent surgery shortly after, alternating between using a wheelchair and crutches to help him get around for eight weeks. Though the celebrity chef-who shares kids Hunter , 29, and Ryder , 18, with wife Lori Fieri -is grateful to be in the final stages of healing, he is making sure not to get ahead of himself. “My doctors are all like, ‘We know you want to get after it, but let’s not go back to where we were.’ And I’m like, ‘We are never going back to that!’ That was the worst thing I’ve been through in the last 20 years,” he admitted. “But now, I’ll be up and rolling by the time we hit the Super Bowl for sure.” As for Flavor Town Food Fight , Guy didn’t let his accident completely halt production on the upcoming show. “We’ve got everybody in town, all the chefs there, 125 people on set and everybody’s ready to go, and I’m in surgery,” he explained to Fox News Digital in November. “So, we figured out how to pivot through it and to have some creative filming techniques. But it’s been a run, and now I’m up here at the ranch, where it’s always about hiking and outdoors, and you know, beautiful.” But his constraints didn’t just force him to soak in his stunning environment. In fact, the Guy’s Grocery Games host also had to limit his time cooking, ultimately relying on his two sons and his nephew Jules to prepare Thanksgiving dinner. “I got my three boys, Hunter, Ryder and Jules, and they all know how to cook,” Guy noted at the time. “And now, it’s gonna be me quarterbacking from the wheelchair and telling them what to do. We cook for about 40 people up here, so it’s going to be an adventure.” Keep reading to see more stars who have shared insight into their health scares...
