Three held for possessing pain-relief tablets

Three persons including a juvenile were apprehended by the Ice House police for illegally procuring pain-relief tablets from Mumbai and stocking them for sale. A total of 4,200 pain-relief tablets were seized. Based on a tip-off, the police conducted surveillance near the cremation ground at Krishnampet on Friday morning. Three persons, whom police found to be suspicious were questioned, during which it was found that they had concealed pain-relief tablets meant for sale. The accused - Munir Basha, 27, of Triplicane, and Syed Basheer, 20, of Triplicane, were arrested for illegally possessing the tablets. Police also questioned a 17-year-old juvenile in connection with the case. From them, 4,000 Tapentadol tablets and 200 nitrazepam tablets, totalling 4,200 pain-relief tablets, were seized. During investigation, it was revealed that the accused had procured the pain-relief tablets from Mumbai and were stocking them for sale. After interrogation, the two arrested accused were produced before a court while the juvenile was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, said police. Published - December 27, 2025 12:23 am IST
