
‘Marshmallow’ Sequel Set: Twisty Horror Indie Will Bring Back Original Cast, Writer and Director (EXCLUSIVE)
“ Marshmallow ,” one of last year’s indie horror success stories, is headed back to the woods with a new sequel. Sarah Woods Hemlock Circle Productions announced the news that director Daniel DelPurgatorio, writer Andy Greskoviak and cast members Kue Lawrence, Kai Cech, Dylan Friedman and Max Malas are all set to return for the next chapter of “Marshmallow.” A release date is not yet set. Per the official and mysterious logline, “Set years after the events of the first film, the sequel follows the lingering damage left behind - not just to the world, but to those who survived it. The story descends into far darker territory, expanding the mythology while erasing any remaining sense of safety as the consequences finally come due.” “’Marshmallow’ opened the door to a world that still has a lot of dark corners left to explore,” Todd Friedman, co-founder at Hemlock Circle Production, said in a press release. “We’ve always believed there was more story to tell, and the response from audiences has only reinforced that.” Popular on Variety The original film was about kids at a summer camp who face a mysterious figure who is stalking them - until a big twist we won’t spoil here. It’s currently streaming on Paramount+, Amazon and Shudder. DelPurgatorio is repped by Abram Nalibotsky and Sean Barclay of Gersh. Hemlock Circle Productions began in 2019 as “an independently owned film, television, and digital media company focused on producing, creative, smart, and efficiently budgeted productions for a global audience,” per a press release.
