NBC Orders Crime Drama Pilot From Dean Georgaris & John Fox Inspired By Profiler Ann Burgess

NBC is keeping the momentum with a third drama pilot in as many days. The network has given a green light to an untitled one-hour from The Brave creator Dean Georgaris , longtime David Entertainment executive John Fox and Universal Television. Written by Georgaris and Fox, the untitled series is inspired by the work of expert profiler and author Dr. Ann Burgess , subject of the 2024 Hulu docuseries Mastermind: To Think Like a Killer . Her work also served as inspiration for David Fincher’s Netflix series Mindhunter. In the NBC drama, Professor Georgia Ryan is a trailblazing psychologist who challenges the field of criminology by shifting the investigative focus to the victim rather than just the perpetrator in order to uncover the crucial clues that more traditional methods leave behind. Alongside her team, this pioneering expert consults with the FBI to solve the most baffling and elusive cases. Burgess is a consulting producer as is Steven Constantine. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, where Georgaris and Davis Entertainment have a long history, is the studio. Watch on Deadline This marks a re-teaming of Georgaris and Davis Entertainment who partnered in 2021 for high-concept procedural Blank Slate, which was set up at NBC via Universal TV with a put pilot commitment. NBC is keeping in the crime genre with its three drama pilots to date this season: The Rockford Files reboot, an untitled one-hour about a law enforcement family chased by an assassin, and the Georgaris/Fox project. As Deadline reported, the network could go up to four drama pilot this cycle , the most we have seen post-pandemic. Three pilots written by Georgaris for Uni TV have gone to series in the last few years, The Brave and Bluff City Law. at NBC and Baker and the Beauty at ABC. He recently served as executive producer/showrunner on NBC/Uni TV’s Quantum Leap reboot. Davis Entertainment’s series credits include The Blacklist , The Equalizer and Magnum P.I.
