Playing her first T20I since December last year, Renuka (4/21) excelled with the new ball, dismantling the Sri Lankan top order and shifting the momentum firmly in India’s favour. The dependable Deepti (3/18) provided crucial support with timely wickets and joined Australia’s Megan Schutt as the highest wicket-taker in women’s T20Is with her 151st wicket in the format. Looking to stay competitive in the series, Hasini Perera (25) gave Sri Lanka a fast start, hitting two boundaries to score 12 runs off the opening over by Renuka. Perera balanced caution with innovation, even scooping the ball over the wicketkeeper for her fourth boundary, easing the pressure on skipper Chamari Athapaththu (3), who struggled to rotate the strike. However, India fought back. Deepti broke through as Athapaththu advanced down the pitch, only to top-edge to Harmanpreet Kaur. Renuka, quickly finding her rhythm, returned for her second spell in the sixth over to deliver twin blows. She first dismissed the in-form Perera and then executed a sharp caught-and-bowled to remove Harshitha Samarawickrama (2), leaving Sri Lanka at 32 for 3. Renuka struck again in the 10th over, trapping Nilakshika Silva leg-before, further tightening India’s control over the game. Kavisha Dilhari (20) and Imesha Dulani shared a 40-run stand. However, just as Sri Lanka seemed to be recovering, Deepti claimed her 150th T20I wicket, dismissing Dilhari. From that point, Deepti and Renuka continued to take regular wickets, ensuring Sri Lanka never regained momentum and were restricted to a subpar total.
