Rebel Wilson Suffers Blow In Legal Fight With âThe Debâ Producers As Judge Guts Starâs Lawsuit
Rebel Wilson has been dealt a major blow in her sprawling legal battle with the British producers behind The Deb , her directorial debut. LA Superior Court Judge Thomas Long tossed the majority of Wilsonâs claims against Amanda Ghost , Gregor Cameron, and Vince Holden during a hearing this week. Wilson alleged that Ghost sexually harassed actress Charlotte MacInnes and later colluded with The Deb star to cover up what took place. Wilson also accuses Ghost, Cameron, and Holden of intimidation and embezzling funds from the movie. Judge Longâs decision means Wilson can no longer pursue some of the more serious allegations in her lawsuit, including claims that Ghost grooms young women and stole credit for James Bluntâs song âYouâre Beautiful.â The judge declared Wilsonâs claims âimmaterial and abusive.â Watch on Deadline Wilson will also be denied the opportunity to amend her case, meaning her lawsuit has been narrowed to fair-dealing claims against AI Film, run by Ghost. The Pitch Perfect star will also be able to pursue allegations that producers caused her emotional distress. Judge Long has also granted Ghost permission to conduct limited discovery in relation to her defamation lawsuit regarding so-called âsmear websitesâ that made incendiary allegations about the producer being the âIndian Ghislaine Maxwell.â Ghost and her colleagues amended their original July 2024 defamation complaint against Wilson to accuse her of commissioning the websites, which they said contained âmalevolentâ and âracistâ lies. Wilson has âunequivocallyâ denied any role in âconceiving, planning, registering, directing, creating, writing, or posting the content of the websites.â Specifically, the court authorised a deposition and document subpoena of Katie Case, a former employee of publicist Melissa Nathanâs TAG. Messages that emerged in the It Ends with Us dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni reveal how Nathan told Case that âRebel wantsâ a âreally harshâ website about âAmanda.â Camille Vasquez, The Deb producersâ attorney, said: âWith Ms. Wilsonâs claims dismissed, the case now focuses on her conduct, including serious questions about the source of smear websites deploying racist, false and abusive content to target Amanda Ghost-those issues will be pursued zealously in discovery.â Wilson and her attorney were contacted for comment.
